Paul Barton, mandolinist extraordinaire and eldest of the duo was raised up on the sounds of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. Growing up in Bakersfield, CA, he started playing guitar and writing songs when he was eight years old. At age nineteen Paul attended South Plains College in Levelland , TX on a full ride scholarship and subsequently recorded his first album there entitled "Acoustic Psalms". After college, Paul joined The Gary Ferguson Band and spent the next year touring the East coast with Gary, James Bailey and Tom Gray. In 1997, after moving back to California, Paul formed The Brothers Barton band with his brother Loren Barton and recorded their first album together. This record featured Gabe Witcher (Punch Brothers) on fiddle
In 2003, Paul again teamed up with Loren and this time was joined by Richard Greene (Bill Monroe, Muleskinner) and they formed the band called Richard Greene and The Brothers Barton. They recorded a ground breaking album of old time and new acoustic originals entitled "Shufflin'", which in 2005 was nominated for a Roots Music award. That same year Paul released his fourth album with Loren entitled Originals and won the National Bluegrass Playoffs at Huck Finn's Jubilee. In 2014 Paul released his fifth album with Loren, Christian Ward and Jeff Basille Pekarek entitled "New Love" which featured eight of his original compositions.
Paul is an accomplished vocalist, guitar, mandolin and banjo player and has made guest appearances on many different albums throughout his career. Paul is the primary songwriter and harmony singer for The Brothers Barton.
Loren Barton, "a young genius" as quoted by Richard Greene of Bill Monroe fame, grew up listening to the sounds of Doc Watson, Flatt and Scruggs, and Del McCoury. By the time he was fourteen years old he was winning every banjo contest he entered. In 1993, while competing in a band contest, Loren and his brother Paul beat out a much lesser known band at the time called Nickel Creek. In 1995 he moved to Levelland, TX to study banjo under banjo legend Alan Munde. Instead of falling more in love with the banjo, Loren began a life long relationship with the acoustic guitar.
In 1998 after years of studying the guitar playing of such greats as Tony Rice, Loren recorded his first album along with his brother entitled "The Brothers Barton". Since then Loren has recorded three more The Brothers Barton albums and his toneful guitar playing can be heard on every cut. Loren has performed with some of the best artists in the business including Allison Krauss, Richard Greene, Gabe Witcher, Maria Muldar and The Smokin' Armadillos, just to name a few. In 2009 Loren founded the Barton Lane Guitar Company and has crafted by hand a number of fine acoustic guitars.
Loren is a gifted guitar and banjo player and he is also the primary lead singer for The Brothers Barton.
Paul Lee is a fiddler who has toured and recorded with numerous bluegrass bands for over two decades. His discography includes albums on CMH and Rounder.
His latest recorded efforts include a Fiddle-Banjo duet album (Take It Out Back and Burn It, 2015), and his co-production of the neo-traditionalist bluegrass group The Roustabouts (Patchwork, 2015).
He has played for George W. Bush, the King of Fiji, and on a cruise ship on the Yangzte River in central China. He teaches fiddle in Nipomo, CA, and daylights as a California Licensed Acupuncturist.
Originally from Connecticut, Evan is a Berklee College of Music graduate, and now resides in Los Angeles. Following in the footsteps of his father, Evan took up the electric bass and has since become a multi-instrumentalist with the upright bass, acoustic and electric guitar, and mandolin.
Evan has toured domestically and internationally, has done recording work for TV and movies, played festivals all over America and Canada, and has had the opportunity to play with many incredible musicians. He has played on stage with John Mayer, Ed Helms, Willie Watson of Old Crow Medicine Show, actor John C Reilly, The Preservation Hall Jazz band, Kesha, among countless others. He has also performed at The Grammys' 2012 P&E Wing event honoring T-Bone Burnett and The Grammys' 2014 P&E Wing event honoring Neil Young, and the Porchlight Sessions Nashville premier at the Franklin Theatre with Steve Martin & Steep Canyon Rangers.
While living in Los Angeles he has performed on TV shows for TLC, Bravo TV and has recorded score music for shorts films and TV shows. Evan also spent some time playing with Paper Pilots which had a featured track on HBO's Grammy nominated True Blood Vol.3 Soundtrack. In 2014, Paper Pilots was asked to be featured extras on TRUE BLOOD as a vampire band alongside cast member Luke Grimes 'Vampire James'. The band can be seen on the season 6 finale episode.
Evan is a seasoned musician, a hard and devoted worker and is constantly honored to be playing alongside incredible musicians and friends while always maintaining a humble attitude.
